Place Hugues Plomb

The Portail Saint-Martin gate is a remnant of the Church of Notre-Dame, one of the oldest structures in Epernay. This Renaissance structure designed by Reims sculptor Pierre Jacques and built in 1540, became a listed historic monument in 1908. Worth noting are its charming stone garlands, intertwined with motifs depicting love, Hercules and a variety of animals, among which those of salamanders unquestionably identify this gate with the Francis I period.
