The inhabitants are known as Sarmates. This village is in the nature reserve of the montagne de Reims. It is in fact made up of no less than five hamlets linked by a dense road network: Nogent, the most populated, Sermiers, le Petit Fleury, Courtaumont and Montaneuf or mount of donkeys. There are also several outlying farms like le Cosson and Saint-Martin. This very spread-out village is nevertheless dominated by one building, the church whose bulb-shaped belltower remains an originality in the region. At a height of 44 metres, it was built in 1837-38; burnt down in 1901, and rebuilt exactly as it was.
