‘1 fleur’ village in bloom
Destroyed in the First World War, the church was rebuilt in another location offering a better setting. Residents had taken the precaution of removing and hiding the church’s treasure: a stained-glass window depicting a pregnant Virgin Mary with the foetus showing. Common since the 13th century, such a portrayal was later combated by religious authorities. It is found in statuary, but is extremely unusual in stained glass. Another point of interest, the washing-place dating from 1890 was restored with contributions from residents. The building, fed by a spring, is in a pleasant setting, with a lake and large lime trees. Children come and play here, the old folk play cards on the picnic tables, and family parties are held here.
