Before being destroyed in the war and rebuilt on the same site, the village was relatively prosperous. This is evident in the activity of the largest of the estates, Commelles, 1700 hectares around the castle served by 22 servants. Also annihilated in 1914, the huge property was especially used for hunting because of the abundant game kept in by the fence surrounding the chalk fields and the woods. Deer were also brought from Normandy to be released here for riding to hounds...
