As the vineyards extend from the Côte des Blancs, to the south-west of Epernay, the Sézannais and Petit Morin hills offer you the opportunity to experience an extremely rich wine-making, historic, architectural, and natural heritage.

In this realm of Chardonnay, nearly 300 winemakers work 2,300 vine-clad hectares.

The Association de Promotion des 2 coteaux (the Association for Promoting the 2 hillsides) works to energise and promote this territory’s varied wine tourism offering where producers and inhabitants will share their love of the land with you!

Fifteen or so cellars and houses, all carrying the "Vignobles & Découvertes" label, open their doors to you and reveal the secrets of their champagne over a tasting and/or a visit of their property.

UNEXPECTED RICHES

For lovers of beautiful stone buildings, a walk through the narrow cobbled streets of Sézanne, an ancient medieval town called the “Little Town of Character®”, is a must. It will seduce those who love to stroll with its tree-lined avenues that follow the outline of ancient fortifications, the remains of guard towers and of walls, its church, its chapel, etc.

The Forêt de la Traconne (forest) and the Marais de Saint Gond (wetland) with its vast bog, its damp meadows, its ponds and its woods promise you a breath of nature and of greenery.

Lovers of history will discover that the fate of the country was decided here not once, but twice. First, at Champaubert, where the victory column celebrates Napoleon's victory of 1814 during the Campaign of North-East France. Then at Mondement, where a 35-metre tall menhir, situated on a natural balcony overlooking the Saint Gond wetlands, represents the obstacle against which the invader came up on 9 September 1914.

The Route Touristique du Champagne starts from Bergères les Vertus.

Winding through bocage, swamp, and vineyards, the route reveals an arrangement of vineyard plots interspersed with copses and fields in a rugged landscape.

Many beautiful stone buildings await your discovery: châteaux (Montmort-Lucy, Etoges), churches (Allemant, Barbonne-Fayel, Vert-Toulon…), abbeys (Notre-Dame du Reclus, Baye, Oyes), but also menhirs, dolmens, etc.
