THE FIRST LODGES!
WHEN THE VINE LODGES REINVENT THE LOOK OF THE VINEYARD
VINE LODGES, VINE CABINS OR “CADOLES”...
These modest constructions, which appeared in the 16th century, were made up of one room, used most often by winemakers for shelter, food and rest…
Evidence of champagne viticulture’s ancient practices, the vine lodges are intimately linked to the land’s identity and its history and contribute to the identity of the champagne growing landscape.
INVENTIVENESS
A circuit route now allows you to discover these new generation lodges, built essentially from salvaged materials.
So, in addition to now offering shelter and a meeting point during the harvest, these lodges are now a place for walkers to take a pleasant break.
Nestled into the hillsides, equipped with swings, transformed into a huge picnic table or a bed open to the skies... They all give an uninterrupted view over the vines and invite you to discover more!
Renaissance
Fallen into disrepair, this memorial to the wine-growing landscape, finds a new lease of life in Champagne due to the first edition of “Architecture and Champagne” summer schools.
Thirty-four student architects, coming from France and abroad, are tasked with devising and rethinking 8 vine lodges, throughout the vineyards.
Lodge bed, lodge table, lodge window, lodge swing, lodge totem pole... these creators do not lack creativity and will surprise you with new editions planned to give the greatest joy to those who love beautiful walks and wine tourism!
Visit each of theses vine lodges in Cumières, Verzenay, Tours-sur-Marne, Vanault-le-Châtel, Changy, Urville (10) and les Riceys (10)...
Also discover the circuit by downloading the IDVizit app, available for free from the App Store and Google Play.
CREATING THE VINE LODGES OF TOMORROW
