Like its ample Town Hall, the village has a certain style. Set against the montagne de Reims, it prospered in its narrow streets surrounded by the ever-present vines which made a huge terroir. The main activity is also seen in the church of Saint Nicholas where the wooden choir stalls represent people at work. Rilly was badly damaged in the last war. The railway tunnel which linked Reims to Epernay was used as a depot for German V1s. The ends of the tunnel were bombed by English planes to annihilate this formidable weaponry.
