All year round, lots of bird watching enthusiasts gather to observe the birds as they paint the skies over the Pays du Der. The Observatoire de l’Étang des Landres is one of the places where you can enjoy this magnificent life-sized spectacle. L’Étang des Landres, a site of great biological significance, belongs to the Outines ponds which are adjacent to the Der lake.
To get there, you have to park at the Maison de l'Oiseau et du Poisson, near the roundabout at the Chantecoq site. Then take the trail that goes down towards the west/south-west. After 500 metres, take the path that forks right towards the Observatoire de l’Étang des Landres.
The great egret can be seen in autumn and winter while the purple heron and the Eurasian bittern nest there.
